But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” Luke 14:12-14

We are called to be hosts and to invite others to The Table. Jesus challenges us to not only invite those closest to us, but also those on the outside who may not be as easy to include. We need to always remember that God’s Kingdom is open to anyone and everyone who will except the invitation. Come and See as we continue our series on fellowship.

Do you think the church uses this word for everything involving a get-together? You are not alone; this word is often over-used and under-practiced. In the letter of 1 John, the author writes as if fellowship is something far stronger than a neighborhood get-together or a church social. He writes as if being a Christian is somehow tied to this word. What if we decided as a church to take this concept of fellowship to a whole new level? What would happen if we lived out these principles of fellowship? Things like:

• Commitment
• Honesty
• Hospitality
• Radical grace
• Openly Christian

1 John sees fellowship leading others to a relationship with Jesus. Jesus spent a great part of His ministry around a table; maybe we need to get back to the basics. Fellowship is way more than a BBQ, but that may be a good place to start!
